Productivity is a topic that is being discussed a lot lately. Leaving work and feeling that we had a productive day can be hard sometimes because we tend to get distracted with a lot of things in our daily life:

  • Work Emails
  • Phone Calls
  • Random Phone Notifications
  • Checking out your phone
  • Social Media (FOMO)

There is a lot of resource on how to get things done and be more productive. Below are the ones that works for me:

  • Pomodoro Technique: Instead of using a mechanical timer or the website, I installed Horo. It’s a free timer app for Mac and displays the countdown on the menu bar. Every time I get distracted, I can see the timer at a glance and get back to work knowing how much time is left. Most of the time, once the first 25 minutes is over, I restart the time to get some more stuff done.

  • Daywise: Average people in US receive 45.9 push notifications per day. In the morning, when I check my phone, my lock screen is filled with notifications and I start to go through them. Checking your phone or email should not be the first thing you do in the morning. I came across batch notification and gave Daywise a go. Its life changing. I get notification on schedule, 4 times a day: 8.30; 12.30;17:00;21:30. That really stopped me from getting distracted by my phone.

  • Up Next: Up Next is another Mac menu bar tool that displays the next item on my calendar. Keeping me up to date on upcoming meetings. Instead of getting a notification 15 mins before, I always see what next on my calendar.

  • Dozer: Menu bar icons can be distracting at some point if you have a lot of tools installed. Dozer, hides those that you do not want to see. Keeping only the important ones visible. For me: Horo and Up Next.
